Johnny Makkar (@jsmakr) has made an impressive job by trying to list and crowdsource his listing of branded apps. The list includes above 100 apps (full widget here) and i am sure there is more (actually we have added a couple of them including the latest CNN mobile app). It looks like it is mainly US centric and i am sure the same work could be extended to other local app stores.

One key question that remains to discuss is: what could be considered as a brand. Of course all the offline international blockbusters are quite obvious (GAP, Avis,…).
- But should online brands be included (like Yahoo)?
- or have a separate listing?
- What about smaller brands?
- Regional brands?
- Should games be considered as brands?
In any case this confirms a trend we are following from day 1 in this blog. Every Brand will have a an app, at least one.
You are invited to complete that listing. On our side we have created a nice widget that can be embedded on your site hopping it will help Johnny’s brilliant initiative
FYI all those apps totalize above $66. Meaning that the average price of a branded app is below the lowest price of a paid app on the app store. It is also to be noted that most of those apps are free. Which we believe is the right price of course for a branded app
