Congrats to TheyMakeApps, an AppsFire/ App Star Awards partner for winning SXSW Web awards

We were super happy to learn in real time yesterday at SXSW that our partner TheyMakeApps (a directory for iphone devs) won the Web Awards. TheyMakeApps is also a partner of our own App Star Awards and Olivier Peyre is part of our Uber-Jury and helped us with the creation of our gorgeous web site http://AppStarAwards.com

In addition we are also happy to know that a frenchie was on stage for the award (reminder AppsFire is a french company too..)

So congrats to our App Star Award partner, for winning an Award. Real stars :) You follow?

We're proud of our app stars!

We're happy to see that 2 of the finest apps of the App Star Awards we organized, as still unreleased are ending up today in the front page of the US App store.

PositionApp (finalist, iTunes getap.ps/PositionApp) and HereFileFile (Winner, iTunes getap.ps/herefilefile) are featured today in the prestigious new and noteworthy section

So, what do you say? Is it worth participating at our App Star Awards? :)

Congrats to them!

FireCast: interview with SketchNation, App Star Awards Winner

Sketchnation by Ouriel Ohayon
(download)

We wanted to publish this interview before but since StetchNation (twitter @Sketchnation / blog here)   is not yet published in the App Store we decided to wait a little

Sketch Nation drew a lot of attention at our app competition, App star Awards last december, because it allows to create a sophisticated game very simply: but just drawing it. We we intrigued by the concept and reached out to Nitzan Wilnai (pic below), down in Silicon Valley to discuss his project. FYI the video demo above has been seen already close to 30,000 times. Not bad for an app unreleased!

Find out more in this 08 min interview

PS: Discover the other winner interview, herefilefile

FireCast: interview with AppStar winner @HereFileFile

Herefilefile by Ouriel Ohayon
(download)

Here is a 8 min podcast with Adam Wulf from HereFileFile an upcoming app that one our App Star Awards.

The app, not yet released, and in particular the video demonstration were particularly impressive. Think of it like a MobileMe but without the necessity to have a mobileMe account

Here is the demo for a reminder (you'll hear in the podcast that this 30 sec clip took actually quite a while to produce...)

HereFileFile is a creation of Adam Wulf (@adamwulf) Benjamin Sherman (@ben_jamin_s) and Buck Wilson (@buckwilson)

The app should be available in Jan 2010 at Getap.ps/Herefilefile

Let's wait for it then :)

[App Star Awards ★] Now, all the participants videos

We had the finalists and the winners.

We promised we would showcase all the videos of all the App Star participants in our site. There you go. Just point your browser to that link

Video.appsfire.com/tag/participants

Now you can watch behind the scenes and see how difficult the choice we had to make was. There are many apps demos we did not publish mainly because either the video went private or the creators preferred not to share them at this stage. But you are seeing a nice chunk of it.

We must say we liked a few like the simplicity of Quickie or the Bad Breath app (so funny)

Thanks again to all the participants. And dear readers, please help them with your feedback and rating. I am sure they'll appreciate

Anyone you like in particular?

Congrats to App Star Awards winner @Cookmateapp, for landing so fast in the App Store

Woops, that was fast! 1 day only after the App star results were announced Cookmate, our winner in the entertainment category lands in the App Store

You can now enjoy their great apps available on getAp.ps/Cookmate [yep, they use our cool getap.ps URL :) ]

If you want to "taste" the app (no play on words), here is a video preview that made them win our contest.

From what we're hearing, they're off to a great start! Yep they are already #1 app in the Czech App Store, but we're sure it won't stop there!

App Star Awards Winner @SketchNation in BBC news, by @ewan

Designing a game yourself was Engineous Games' goal. Winners of the AppsFire developers contest, its Sketch Nation app starts life as a basic arcade game, but every feature and graphic in the game is created by the users - but not using a graphical application.

Players sketch out ship, enemy invaders and other objects on paper, and then the smartphone's camera takes these pictures and places them into the game. Not only is it a great game, but it also releases the creativity of the user in a simple way.

Like we said, quality attention is what really matters for an app developer and Sketch Nation just got a nice spot on BBC news!

Congrats to them and thanks to Ewan Spence for the nice post
