Search apps from anywhere

We thought it would be cool to provide a search experience for apps that is available where you need it.

Here is an example on "World Cup" (you can search a name, a keyword in description)

So from now, all you need is to click this bookmarklet (find it here and drag it to your bookmark tool bar).

It will instantly open a search window with key search filters (free, ipad only, category, rating,,)  and will bring super fast, results you can preview immediately just like in an iPhone.

This is not a revolution. But a cool, simple thing that will help you every day, when you need it. More coming on that very soon btw.

let us know what you think!

Bonjour! The iPad App Store, available in French!

update: it can be viewed only from the iPad, not from iTunes (yet)

The iPad will start to be sold in France in about a week. But the App Store is already available in French from your iPad (the first international that we know of)

Just log with your French App Store credentials to see it.

The iBook store is also available btw (although we just see 1 book for now)

PasteFire: announcing a new Bookmarklet and iPad compatibility

The continuous positive feedback we are receiving on Pastefire (and the interest of some clones also...) is delighting us and pushed us to improve the service a bit more.
More and more people understand the necessity of not only copy/pasting content from the computer to the device, but also to manage that smartly inviting you to the relevant action.

We see that most people that start to use Pastefire, can't stop using it.

We were not really happy with the bookmaklet experience which was until now, opening a new browser window and was not really efficient enough. We totally redesigned it.

What's new?
  • A brand new awesome interface
  • Now shows the links or content you copied in the bookmarklet window
  • Auto-Close feature after 4 seconds with fade out effect
If you know Instapaper or ReaditLater bookmarklet, this is pretty much the same experience. Just Do it later :)

Want to try it?

  • Go to Pastefire copy zone
  • Use at least once method A (meaning copy/pasting content from the browser using your credentials)
  • Drag and Drop the Bookmarklet to your favorite tool bar (found in method B next to the icon below)

And that's all!!

If you are already using our bookmarklet, just delete it and drag the new one you will find in Method B in the copy zone (if some bugs exist, you may need to delete your cookies for pastefire)

PasteFire on the iPad, simultaneous iPhone/iPad notifications

The other great news is that Pastefire is also compatible with the iPad.

If you own an iPhone and an iPad, chances are that you want to copy/paste content to both devices

Now you can just install pastefire on your iPad (getap.ps/pastefire) and each time you will copy some content, both devices will instantly be notified, you will have 3 min to view your notifications.

A lot more is coming soon.

Oh yes, and Pastefire is still free....Let us know if you like it!

PS: reminder you can also use Pastefire from any program on your computer both from Mac and PC. Just download our Open source Desktop client and enjoy

10 super short iPad thoughts, after the storm

Now that the storm seems over and that we digested some noise, here are some gross thoughts on what we are observing about the iPad

  1. It is probably the most over anticipated AND underestimated device since the iPhone
  2. The 3 killer features of the Tablet are probably and beyond all expectations and gorgeous UI, 1. speed 2. battery life and 3.price 3 things the iPhone is not yet good at. The rest seems like a decoration
  3. Probably a killer device for reading. Not sure the Kindle comparison is good because the Kindle is made for reading books. iPad is going to be killer to read 1. Comics / 2 Magazines / 3 PhotoBooks / 4 Music Sheets *
  4. Multi-tasking is not yet here. let's bet it will be within 12 months. At least some form of communication protocol between key apps (email, calendar, contact, notes)
  5. In the ad, Jobs does not appear, only Yve, Schiller and Forstdale. One of them will replace Jobs. I would say Yve (most charisma, vision, apple DNA)
  6. The 2 immediate killer iPhone apps for iPad will be Instapaper and ReadItLater
  7. How will you deal with an iPhone, running already 1 phone number and an iPad running another? Will there be a sync?
  8. Will the iPad be used as a Phone? Probably not, even if the function is available on the 3G model. During the Apple event nothing was said about calling. It is more about data and permanent connection
  9. App discovery for the iPad will become even more critical since a new generation of Apps will raise in addition to current iPhone apps.
  10. Probably the most missed feature to make the iPad a true macbook replacement, will be a frontal webcam.
Bonus:
  1. why iPad.com is not an Apple property?
  2. Will the iPad blend?
We think the iPad will be a major success. Maybe bigger than the iPod touch.

* one thing i really wonder whether Apple thought about, since the iPad is a connected device, will books "web ready"? meaning if i read a sentence, run a search on a word in Google, or find a wikipedia definition instantly. Will there be "Smart reading" enabled vs "Classic Reading"
