@Atebits (Tweetie) answers our question: had an acquisition offer, turned it down

After our morning question about Tweetie being acquired, Loren Brichter himself answered us on Twitter

He had an acquisition offer that he turned down. For now he prefers to run his shop alone, and as far as we can see, he does it wonderfully

But i have no doubt at some point this will happen (he did not say, i will never sell :) )

Twitter wins big time in usage on Facebook from the iPhone

A little update on our research. We issued a poll to understand if you guys are using more twitter or facebook from the iPhone. So far a little more than 700 respondents have participated.

The result is crystal clear: iPhone owners use more Twitter than Facebook on Their iPhone: 69% are using either more Twitter or only Twitter.

This is of course a small sample (although 700 answers start to have some meaning). What would be really interesting, would be the actually aggregated data usage for both services provided by ATT (or any national operator in deal with Apple). They probably know a lot more...

update 24/09/09: we passed the 1000 respondents. The trend is the same. One reader added a smart comment: since Twitter status can be synced with Facebook or some apps enable double publishing the Twitter usage and Facebook usage could be correlated but the prime access goes to Twitter

from Cidya Store to the App Store: qStatus brings a simple status update tool

A few apps start on Cidya first before making it to the App Store. Most of the time because of the necessity to access some locked resource of the iPhone, such as running in the background, or gaining access to your music library. But once they hit the natural limit of cidya audience (about 10% of the iPhone population), they need to move on to find a bigger business opportunity.

This is what happened this week to qTweeter, a super twitter client now moving to the App Store with qStatus. The problem is that it is losing a little of its magic: the activate-by-sliding feature has gone and you have to open the service like any regular app.

However the app is awesome and even if it is not free it is worth a try if you're looking for a way to get a tool to update fast your status.

Why is that better than other twitter or facebook app? because usually the "traditional" apps need some time to load your feeds, making this process a bit less spontaneous.

The iPhone losing market share as a Camera phone? Maybe it's just Flickr

The NextWeb observes that the iPhone is losing dramatic market share in Flickr. The problem is unlikely to be due to the iPhone however.

The number of iPhones is still growing fast. However a few things are affecting the number of pictures uploaded to flickr. Namely Facebook and Twitter. And maybe...Youtube

  • The new Facebook app is better built for picture shooting and uploading. I am sure a large numbers of iPhone users have started to switch their usage pattern to Facebook
  • Most Twitter app now integrate picture shooting: 100% of those pictures are not going to Flickr but to services like Twitpic or Yfrog. I believe there is a strong overlap of users uploading to Flickr and using Twitter. Although i don't have the exact details. What we know though is that Twitpic is gaining momentum in audience vs Flickr (See google trends here)

  • Finally the new iPhone 3Gs gives a new alternative to picture shooting: video recording. Many users will prefer in a few cases shoot a video...and upload it to YouTube.
Soon Flickr will aggregate iPod nano now able to shoot pictures. I anticipate that added to the iPhone "Apple Market Share" will recover and maybe will get even bigger

ps: one reason i put aside..flickr could also have some issues in their own data backlog...but it is unlikely and still the reasons above would make sense

Discover BirdBrain: A smart Twitter followers management app

If you are a twitter addict, you may want to check BirdBrain iPhone app which gives you a nice overview on your Twitter followers analytics. All this wrapped up in a nice user interface.

This is something Ego App could easily add (actually that would be a great addition).

BirdBrain is not free, but worth a look. The search feature could be easily improved, specially by adding a user recommendation system (why not do it with MrTweet? )
