Why didn't we make a simple iPhone app only? Well, there is no app for that!

When people understand what Appsfire does [meaning allowing the sharing of your favorite iPhone apps] they all ask us the same question.

"Why do i need to download also something on my computer? Why don't you just do an iPhone app that does that?"

Simple answer: it is simply impossible.

Actually there are a couple of ways but we keep them for ourself maybe later. They would be risky and unsafe so we discarded them for now.

Basically Apple does not let you read what's on your iPhone. Each app has its own sandbox and except maybe the contact book, no app can communicate with another app making the listing of your own apps impossible from the iPhone.

So how do we solve this?

We scan first your iTunes files on your computer and associate it with the UDID (the unique ID) of your iPhone. Meaning that when you'll use our iPhone app the list of your app is automatically served. We won't enter in the detail about how we scan and list your apps, but this is not easy. Explaining why it is not yet perfect and many of you don't see all their apps [a new build is coming]

You probably noticed that other iPhone apps also require an install on your computer for the same reason: Simplify media for music, Remote control apps.

In our case there is an advantage to that, the sharing experience is also possible from the computer so you can enjoy appsfire without iPhone app.

Next?

Maybe 1 day Apple will open up and create an API for the feed of apps which will make things easier (and give potential competitors some idea...). It seems iTunes 9 will allow music sharing (in a limited way an only with playlist). But for now this is what it is

There is no other app for that.
