Last September Appsfire participated in Mobilize 2012, a conference organized by GigaOM to explore the next generation of mobile and connected services and devices.
Mobilize is perhaps the most interesting and relevant event in the mobile technology. Over the weekend of September 21-22, the Appsfire team took the opportunity to meet and network with leading minds in mobile technology.
Ouriel Ohayon, Appsfire’s cofounder, participated in an App Discovery Panel, a subject obviously near and dear to our heart. App discovery is proving to be a very timely subject, with the release of iOS6 causing a bit of controversy regarding the new App Store interface.
But the most pressing issue for the App Discovery Panel was what developers should do to break the glass ceiling of the App Store rankings and get better distribution. At the core of this discussion is innovation, the driving force in all industries. There are thousands of new and innovative apps no one has ever heard about, and consumers are missing out on exciting apps.
Ouriel presented a list of points about what app developers should keep in mind. Firstly, that a good product is necessary but does not guarantee success, and second that while passive discovery is a very successful method, the number of apps featured by Apple is still very limited, he went as far as suggesting doing away with the rankings altogether …
So what else can developers do? Watch the App Discovery Panel video below, and find out!
